Pantelis Karantonis Obituary

Pantelis “Peter” Karantonis, age 76, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 23, 1944 in Tilos, Dodecanese, Greece. Pantelis was the eldest of four sons born to the late Olga and Antonios Karantonis. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stergios Karantonis and John Karantonis. Pantelis is survived by his loving wife, Eleni Karantonis of Stamford, CT, his five children Olga Karantonis Valbuena and her husband Luis, Stamatia Karantonis Glavas and her husband Peter, Antonia Karantonis Caron and her husband Scott, Antonios Karantonis, Maria Karantonis and Barry Emmert. He had four grandchildren, who he adored, Alexander Valbuena, Eleni Valbuena, Iliana Valbuena and Efthemia Caron, as well as his fur-granddogs Lola and Leo. He is also survived by his brother Stamatis Karantonis and his wife Anna, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws in Greece, and many nieces and nephews both in Greece and the United States who loved him very much. Pantelis came to the United States in his early twenties and built a successful business building and painting homes. He also helped care for his family both here and in Greece. A lifelong Stamford, CT resident, he and his wife raised their children together. He worked hard to put them through school and provide them with a good life. He would take his family on trips, piling everyone into his white Cadillac to visit family or on vacations. Everyone knew his iconic Cadillac!! He always wanted his family to remain close to Greece, so they would go there every summer. He was a proud Tilian. A devoted patriot, he worked hard to keep traditions alive for future generations. He was a member of the Progress Society of Tilos, where he served as President of the organization for many, many years. It was an important organization to him since his grandfather was a founding member. He was an excellent orator and would write eloquent speeches as well as documenting historic events. Other than his family, Pantelis had 4 main loves. He loved to dance and listen to his beloved Greek music. He never missed an opportunity to get up and dance Sousta, grabbing anyone next to him to dance along. He loved to garden. Once the weather started to warm up, he would start gathering his vegetables and cleaning up his garden to get it ready for planting. He would spend hours every day, sitting under his trees admiring his growing garden. He loved to fish. He would love to sit on the boat for hours and hours fishing, not caring if he even caught anything. He was happy to be out on the water, regardless of the weather. And lastly, he loved his birthplace, Tilos, Greece. He would count the days until he could return there and spend his summers hanging out at the café with his friends and fishing. He was always the life of the party, telling stories and laughing. He was generous, caring and loving. A wake will be held on Thursday December 3, 2020 between the hours of 9:00 am – 11:00 am at The Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905 following with the funeral church service. The burial will be held immediately after the church service at the Elmvale Cemetery adjacent to the Woodstock farm at 586 Senexet Road No 1, Woodstock, CT 06281. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a GoFundMe page established for the care, upkeep and maintenance of his church, Agios Antonios in Tilos, Greece. The church was very important and special to him and it would’ve made him happy knowing that it is continuing to live on https://gf.me/u/zayr38
