Hannah “Rita” (Cullinane) Rice, 88, wife of the late Lawrence F. “Bob” Rice, died on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Hospice House in Lincoln. Born in Sewickley, PA to the late Michael C. and Ellen F. (Courtney) Cullinane. She was a devout Catholic who embodied the tough Irish spirit, whose family was extremely important to her. She was the essence of “grandmother”, warm and inviting, always hosting the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She would light up when speaking to or about her grandchildren. Her many friendships gave her great joy. Although she did not make the “nineties club”, she was happy for those that did and those that will. She thoroughly enjoyed working at Almy’s Department Store until it closed in 1985. She then went on to work in the medical records department at Beverly Hospital, often complaining of having to decipher doctors’ handwriting. She continued working into her 80’s, until technology confounded her. She loved knitting and crocheting, especially newborn baby sets and donated many hand-crocheted afghans to hospice. Surviving her are two sons, Lawrence M. Rice and his wife Elisa of Londonderry, NH and Robert G. Rice and his wife Kristen of Sudbury, MA; one daughter, Rita M. Rice of Brownsville, VT; six grandchildren, Meghan, Patrick, Evan, Kaitlyn, Courtney, and Kathleen Rice; two great grandchildren Logan and Riley Rice; dear family friends Michael Welch and his wife Paula of Beverly, MA, in addition to several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot Street, Beverly on Monday, December 7th, 2020 at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly Sunday, December 6th, 2020 from 2 to 4 pm. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Care Dimensions Hospice House, 125 Winter Street Lincoln or to a charity of your choice.
