Thelma Juette Hemby Thompson, 103, of West Columbia, passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2020, in Ridgeway, SC. 

Juette was born April 14, 1917 to the late Willie and Emma Souls Hemby . She migrated to Winter Haven/Bartow from Fort Myers, Florida where she was a lifelong resident, before moving to South Carolina to be with her grandson, Michael, 5 yrs ago.  

Juette was a member of the Eastern Stars Sorority, Garden Club, as well as a Bowling League.  She stayed active by gardening, playing Pokeno, and going on trips with several of her girlfriends.  Juette continued to work part time until she was 97 yrs old.  She will be forever remembered for her kindness and her hilarious synonyms.  The stories she told about her life of over 100 years will always be cherished. 

She retired from the Florida School District, where she worked with special needs children.  She absolutely loved children, which she displayed with her family.  She devoted her life taking care of her grandchildren.  Juette had a special love and bond with grandson, Michael & great-grandsons, Dane (Kayla) Thompson & Dale (Deanna) Thompson.  

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Everett; 2 brothers, Celman & William and a sister, Myrtice; as well as a dear friend to Juette, Janice Ellis.

Juette is survived by her son, Maxwell (Janice) Thompson of FL; daughter, Faye Pressnell of SC; Grandchildren, Michael (Rebecca) Thompson of SC, Tommy (Jan) Thompson of FL, Ronald Thompson of FL, Donald, Ronald, David and Caroline all of FL; a sister, Donna June Wilson of MO; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces & nephews.

Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.  There will be no visitation or service at this time.  There will be a spring burial in Florida.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Ridgeway Manor for taking such good care of her.  Cathy Jeter, at Regency Hospice, thank you for everything that you have done to help us over the last year.  A special thank you to Nicole (Christopher) Edenfield and Joseph (Lynda) Boone, for all your help taking care of Juette the last 5 years.  

In a separate acknowledgement, we would like to say THANK YOU to all of her girlfriends in Florida, who kept her active and showing a friendship like no other. You ladies were such a major part of her life, and we will forever be grateful to all of you.
