David Paul Hubbert Obituary

David Paul Hubbert passed away unexpectedly at his family residence Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the age of 32, after a long battle with addiction. Many people knew David through the lens of the addiction he battled. But that wasn't the whole David. He never wanted to be defined only by his addiction and his mistakes. Those fortunate enough to truly know him recognized him as a master at fixing anything that needed it. He enjoyed restoring pinball machines and working on his 1967 Mustang. He was the one that would do anything for the ones he loved but would also disagree with you just to rile you up (and then laugh about it). He would joke and tease any person he was around, but especially liked to antagonize his siblings. David seeked out challenges. He enjoyed live music, and his favorite band was The Grateful Dead. He adored animals, especially his Guinea pigs ("Piggies", as he called them). As a child, David loved climbing trees, swimming, ziplining, and skateboarding. During his school years, he played many sports including baseball, basketball, bowling, and wrestling. He was also very involved in Boy Scouts, where he received a Life Scout Ranking. After graduating from Romeoville High School in 2006, David worked as a tower painter. He loved his work and talked about it all the time. He would vividly describe the freedom he felt and the thrill of "climbing up to the sky". But then again, David always had a thirst for life and experiencing all that it had to offer. He was drawn to excitement. David was smart; he was also adventurous, quirky, outspoken, goofy, and stubborn. But most of all, David had a big heart and deeply loved his family and friends. David is now at peace, and he will be deeply missed by all. We will always cherish the good memories and times that we spent together. He is survived by his loving parents, Joleen (Herb) Swanson and Phillip Hubbert, brother Joseph Hubbert, sister Amy (Allen) Dressel, Maternal Grandmother Glenda Lange, Paternal Grandparents Marsha Fisher-Jonas and Paul (Brenda) Hubbert. The family is remembering David with a contribution to Gateway Foundation (drug treatment center) to help others who are struggling with addiction. If you would like to donate, please specify and do so via Joleen Swanson. All expressions of sympathy are greatly appreciated. A memorial visitation will take place Friday from 3 to 8 pm with a celebration of his life to begin 7 pm at Anderson Memorial Home, 21131 W. Renwick Rd., Plainfield, IL 60544.
