Bonnie Jean (May) Summa was born August 24, 1937 on a farm in Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa to Bessie Faye (Marsh) and Reuel Emerson May.  She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1958.

On June 6, 1959 Bonnie was united in marriage to Gerald Lee Summa.  To this union two boys were born Eric and Ellis.  Bonnie worked at the nursing home north of Mount Ayr as a nurse’s aide.  She was a cashier for Don’s Ayr Liner in Mount Ayr for many years.  She later worked a few years at the dime store and was a cook at the school.  While she worked, she also was a seamstress, sold Avon, baby sat, baked cakes for family and friends, and most importantly was a homemaker.

Bonnie was a member of the Mount Ayr Embers for many years while Gerald was on the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department.  Bonnie passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law Carl (Pearl) May; brother-in-law Eldon Dillenburg.  Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years Gerald of Mount Ayr; two sons Eric Summa of Mitchellville and Ellis (Donna) Summa of Indianola; granddaughter Jenna Rae Summa of Chicago, Illinois; brother John (Carol) May of Mount Ayr; sister Retha Dillenburg of Mount Ayr.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Ayr Embers or the Free Methodist Church of Mount Ayr.
