Susan Judith Brown

Susan J. Brown, a 46-year resident of Wilton, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at the age of 85 following a long illness. Susan was born on December 26, 1934, in Toronto, Canada to the late Joseph P. Filips and Ruth Gunnison Filips. Following her marriage to Edward Brown, she lived in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, and San Jose, California until moving to Wilton in 1974. Susan graduated from Lake Forest College with a degree in English Literature, after which she was a grade-school teacher. After raising her children, she pursued her passion for bridal fashion by working for Carolina Herrera and Christos Bridal, as well as managing The Bridal Couture in New Canaan, CT for many years. She loved to garden, play Bridge, and collect antiques and she was a long-time member of Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, CT. She was a great supporter of animal charities which included serving on the board of directors of Animals In Distress and fostering countless animals over the years. She also volunteered by teaching English as a second language. Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward of 50 years and is survived by her two children, David (Doreen) Brown of Milford, CT and Jane (Michael) Dooley of Wilton, CT; three grandchildren who she adored Devon, Matthew, and Stacia Dooley; her two sisters Paula Mode of Lac du Flambeau, WI and Jane (John) McEnroe of Aurora, IL, as well as many nieces and nephews. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family has elected to have a private ceremony. Susan's final resting place will be alongside her late husband at Hillside Cemetery in Wilton.
