Gertrude Troke (nee Lane) August 27, 1919 – November 30, 2020 Passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, and in the presence of family members, at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Gertrude Troke formerly of Squid Tickle (Burnside), St. Chad’s and Eastport. Gertie was known for her warmth, kindness, generous spirit, partridgeberry tarts, quick wit and sense of humour. She loved, and was loved dearly by, her large family and all those who came to know her. As a young woman, before marrying and raising her family, Gertie worked as a cook on the Labrador on her father’s schooner and was once shipwrecked in Catalina. She lived a long and full life. Predeceased by parents Victor James and Martha Ann (Hunter) Lane; husband Walter; sisters Alma (George) Oldford, Etta (Cleaves) Oldford; brothers Avalon (Edith) Lane, Mack Lane; brothers-in-law Harold (Minnie)Troke, David (Emily) Troke; sister-in-law Eva (Ralph) Dyke. Leaving to mourn her loss are sons Sidney (Dorothy), William (Stella); daughters Rita (Murray), Daphne (Gilbert), Marie (Roger), Joyce (Terry); eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a large number of nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral service at St. James Anglican Church, St. Chad’s at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 3, 2020. Due to COVID 19 regulations, funeral home visitation and church service is by invitation only. The family would like to extend many thanks to Gertie’s health and home care workers during her time living at Eastport Seniors Complex and to the entire staff of Lakeside Homes, Gander. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Church Cemetery fund or a charity of one’s choice.
