Marie Anne Carmichael (Dunn)

      With sadness we announce the passing of our mom Marie Anne Carmichael, with her family by her side, on November 30th, 2020 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge. 

      Mom was born in Winnipeg, MB and shortly after her parents moved to Petersfield, MB where they ran a dairy farm.

      After completing Teachers College her first teaching position was at South Ridge School.  It was there she met Dad and together they raised their six girls.

      Education was very important to Mom and in 1962 they decided to move to Oakville, MB so that their girls could get a high school education.  Mom continued with her teaching position, but later changed careers and worked as a Correctional Officer at the Women’s Correctional Institute in Portage la Prairie for 17 years. 

      Mom loved the village of Oakville and loved to see it grow and prosper.  She was well known in the community as “Grannie Dunn”.   Upon hearing about the plans and construction of The New Hall and Day Care she donated without hesitation to the fund.  She volunteered endlessly for the community she loved; the Oakville School, Community Events and being a faithful Anglican all of her life, served as a Lay Leader for many years.  Mom also belonged to the St. Luke’s Choir, Oakville Seniors and Poplar Point Seniors.    

      Mom cherished and loved all of her grandchildren, but had a very special place in her heart for her grandson Luke “Lambkin”, who cared for her and loved her to the end.  In return, Mom loved Luke with her whole heart. Thank you Luke for making Mom’s life very special. 

      One of Mom’s many sayings was “Count Your Blessings”, and we do!

      Memories of Mom will live on in her six daughters;  Pat (Brian), Barbara (Hank), Debbie, Dorothy, Snow (Allan) and Erin (Allan) along with her 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, her sister Pat Philpott along with all of her nephews and nieces. 

      Mom was predeceased by our dad Wilfrid Dunn, and husband’s Chuck McQuiston and Harvey Carmichael.  Her parents Richard & Marie Hollands, brother Brian and son-in-law Wally.

      In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The New Hall & Daycare, c/o Oakville Community Club, PO Box 244, Oakville, MB   R0H 0Y0 or St. Luke’s Anglican Church, PO Box 255, Oakville, MB  R0H 0Y0.  A private family service to honor Mom will be held at a later date.
