Abel L. Valdez passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the age of 51. He was born in San Marcos, Texas on January 25, 1969 to Domingo Sr. and Esther Valdez. He was preceded in death by his father Domingo Valdez Sr.; grandparents Jose and Melontia Valdez; and grandparents Catarino Sr. and Estela Lerma. He will be remembered lovingly by his wife Elizabeth R. Valdez; his two children Noah Julian and Felicity Andrea Valdez; his mother Esther Valdez; his five siblings Andy Lerma and wife Michelle, Domingo Valdez Jr. and wife Diana, Anthony Valdez, Stella Valdez, and Sonya Mauricio; and his nephews and nieces Stephanie and Andrew Lerma, Bianca and Maya Mauricio, Alec Ryan and Isabella Valdez, and Mark Anthony and Nicole Valdez. He was a strong man of faith, and a dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed golfing, football, volleyball, and softball. He went to San Marcos High School, where he lettered all four years playing defensive tackle, and graduated with the class of 1987. Right after graduation, he started working at Dayton Superior Company (Symons) in New Braunfels, Texas. He worked there for 30 years before retiring in 2016. He was a dedicated member of PromiseLand Church in San Marcos for 17 years. He served in youth and children ministry and in hospitality. A faithful servant for many years, he was a wonderful friend to all. He always had a huge, incredible smile on his face and was loved by so many. Visitation will be held Monday, December 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos, with a prayer service scheduled for 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 8 at 10 a.m. at PromiseLand Church in San Marcos. Graveside services will follow at the San Juan Cemetery in Reedville, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction on Thomason Funeral Home.
