Richard 'Dick' Joseph Martin Billings, Montana Obituary

Richard 'Dick' Joseph Martin

Richard ‘Dick’ Joseph Martin succumbed to liver cancer at the age of 75 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife and son by his side. He was born in Williston, ND on August 26th, 1945 and passed from this earthly plane on November 27th, 2020. Dick had a love of music from a young age with a mother who used to sing to him, and from the time he spent at ‘the Little Hut’ and sang Mr. Blue. He also recalled his time as an altar boy and the hymns of church with fondness. He was an avid sports enthusiast and athlete having played basketball, football, and baseball in his early years and then softball with his beloved team, the Apostles, and bowling in leagues before moving to Billings in 1990. After the move he all but hung up his softball glove and began enjoying a lot of golf and a little more bowling. Dick was a devoted husband, having celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage with family and friends earlier this year. He was also a loving father, and grandfather. He had a sense of humor that was unsurpassed and enjoyed laughing with and teasing all of us. He shared his love of music and passed that love on to each one of his children. He could often be found sitting in his chair with one or both of his beloved dogs Hannah & Duffy watching any of his favorite sports teams on TV. He was always a big Yankee’s fan but also enjoyed football, golf, hockey, and Nascar. He always made the best popcorn for us all to enjoy. Dick leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara Rae Martin (Scott); five children, Marlo Marie Garnett (spouse: Loren), Diane ‘Dee’ Elaine Sundheim, (spouse: Keith), Melony Gay Martin (Phil), Gail Erin Burt (Chris), and Scott Alexander Martin; and Grandchildren: Treyten Richard Guptill, Cierra Rose Sundheim, Savanna May Sundheim, and Sebastian Lawrence Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents Rose and Alec Martin, Sister Rosemarie, and Brothers Ronald and Gene ‘Bud’. Memorial services are to be held 11:00am, Thursday, December 3rd at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 226 Wicks Ln, Billings, MT 59105. Donation can be made to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Dick and his family. Honorary Pall Bearers: Jack Olsen, Jerry Qualey, Terry Donovan, & the entire Apostles Softball Team. <iframe src="https://portal.midweststreams.com/services/iframe/14655" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" width="648" height="400" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen style="margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; display:block;width: 100%; max-width: 100% !important;"> </iframe>
