Raymond Geddes, Jr. Obituary

Geddes, Raymond, Jr was born on July 26, 1924 and died October 31. He was 96 years old.

He graduated from Towson High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army in December 1942 and became a paratrooper in “G” Company of the 501st Paratroop Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. He jumped on D-Day June 6, 1944 at 1.26 am – just hours before the attacks began on the beaches of Normandy. After being wounded by enemy shrapnel on June 8, he was evacuated by sea to a US Army hospital in England. He finished out his tour of duty as an MP in Baltimore, where he met his future wife Shirley who was a Western Union operator at Camden Station.

He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1951 and went on to become a successful businessman. He worked with his father at Raymond Geddes & Co Inc. which was founded the year he was born, selling wholesale school and office supplies. In his free time he enjoyed “wheeling and dealing” at flea markets and yard sales, many times acquiring military memorabilia and other treasures.

Raymond was an avid antique gun collector and a longtime member of the Maryland Arms Collectors Association serving as President in 1957. He was also a Life Member of the NRA as well as the DAV and American Legion Post 0183.

In addition to Shirley, his wife of 70 years, he is survived by his sons William (Will) and Raymond Richard (Rick) and two grandchildren, Lillian and Spencer.

Memorial Services have not been arranged at this time.
