Loretta E Accetura Obituary

Bristol – Mrs. Loretta E. Accetura, 83, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville CT.

Loretta was born in Waterbury on December 23, 1936, the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hansen) O’Toole. Raised in Waterbury, Loretta earned the name “Legs O’Toole” in her youth, given her love of dancing. Loretta was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School as a very devout Roman Catholic. Loretta loved to dance and play piano, and remained active even in her later years. Loretta had a special fondness for bird watching and strong interests in history and geography in her free time.

Loretta was employed at St Mark’s the Evangelist Church as an Office Manager until her retirement. Loretta volunteered an enormous amount of time to her special need’s grandson, Leo who was deaf-blind. Loretta had amazing success teaching Leo math and how to count by tapping the back of his hand with his fist as well as some sign language. Loretta was full of unconditional love, putting other’s needs ahead of her own, especially for her daughter Val, her biggest fan.

In her later years, Loretta remained independent and loved driving to her local stops as she enjoyed socializing where everyone knew her name and welcomed her. Loretta, when in her comfort zones, was very comical and quick witted. Loretta always looked forward to the annual Accetura family gathering hosted by Matt and Pina Accetura of Southington, CT. Loretta happily enjoyed all the activities at Mulberry Gardens.

Loretta leaves behind her daughter, Valerie Accetura, of Berlin; her son, Richard Accetura, and his wife, Susan, of North Granby; her grandsons, Jack, James and Joseph Accetura; and dear family friend, Kevin Mozdy of Waterbury; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family all whom she loved dearly.

Loretta was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Leo Ray Banks; her siblings Leo O’Toole, and his wife, Theresa; Dorothy O’Keefe, and her husband Jack; and her best friend Sophie Black. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions in Loretta’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation https://alzfdn.org/
