Larry Morgan Bucyrus, Ohio Obituary

Larry Morgan

Lawrence Franklin Morgan, 72, died Friday morning, November 27, 2020 at Galion Community Hospital after a month of serious illness. He was born in Columbus on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1948 to the late Frank and Bertha (Smith) Morgan, joining older sisters, Shirley Ann and Bertha Jean. While growing up in Columbus, he was fascinated with trains and became a lifelong collector and model railroader. He met a young lady from Kentucky by the name of Shirley Mae Madden in July 1970 while commuting on a city bus. They fell in love and were married a month later on August 5, 1970. Larry and Shirley first moved to Kentucky to live near family and it was there that he was called to serve his country in the Army from 1974-1977. They later settled in Bucyrus and Larry worked as a security guard for most of his life with Schmidt Security being his employer until poor health forced an early retirement. Larry enjoyed watching his family grow, fishing, watching trains, adding to his train collection, and he was a member of the Bucyrus Model Railroad Association. At home, he liked watching television, especially Storage Wars and reruns of M*A*S*H and Adam12. Shirley passed away on Christmas Eve 1992 and he cherished the photo of her that he kept near in his wallet. Larry is survived by his two children, Larry Francis Morgan and Maryanne Morgan; four grandchildren, Annah Kuykendoll, Lance Pemberton, Justin Thomas Lee Morgan, and Kris Coonrod; and five great grandchildren. The Morgan family will hold private services and lay Larry to rest with Shirley in Waring Cemetery, Garrison, Kentucky. Donations are encouraged to be made payable to Wounded Warrior Project and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Larry’s Tribute Wall.

I participated on many of the model railroading forums with "Brakie" and enjoyed discussing railroading with him. My condolences to his family and loved ones on his passing.
