Daryl C. Hartman Portland, Oregon Obituary

Daryl C. Hartman

Daryl Chester Hartman was born in Portland, Oregon on September 26, 1947 to Dale and Dorothy Hartman, along with his twin sister Cherry. He was one of five children, including sister Barbara, brother Jim, and brother Donny. He lived in Portland until his death on November 24, 2020. Daryl served in the Vietnam war as an Army sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1968 with a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, and an Army Commendation Medal. He was an expert rifle marksman and taught hand to hand combat to his units. Daryl married Kathie Karger on December 7, 1968 and welcomed daughter Abbi in March 1969. In 1975, Daryl and Kathie welcomed twins—son Dan and daughter Sara. Though he and Kathie were divorced later in life, they loved each other until her death in June 1996. Daryl spent his life as a mechanic and figuring out how to make things go as fast as possible. He raced everything he could, but his true love was his 1956 Corvette. Everyone who knew him knew his love for his cars, trucks, and boats, but his Corvette was always his pride and joy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always had a dog by his side, and loved working in his shop surrounded by family and friends. Daryl was a good father and friend. He will be deeply missed, especially by his children. He is survived by his daughter Abbi and her husband Tim, his son Dan and his wife Stephanie, his daughter Sara and her husband Eric, and his twin grandchildren, Lauren and Nathan. A private service is being held at Willamette National Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Revere Court of Portland and Providence Elder Place.
