Caroline May Gommer Obituary

Caroline Gommer, age 83, of Milbank, SD, passed away on November 29, 2020, at Advantara. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church.  Rev. Thom Bowsher and Pastor Kristy Liebe will officiate.  Visitation will be held at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be: Ryan Folk, Adam Folk, Brian Folk, Frank Pelis, and Corey Rethke.  Honorary bearers will be the staff and residents of Avantara. Music will be provided by Tim Mundwiler.

Caroline May (Runge) Gommer was born on August 12, 1937, in Milbank, SD.  She was the daughter of Delos and Alvina (Kruger) Runge. Caroline grew up in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1955.  She was united in marriage with Charles Albert Gommer on May 11, 1957, in Milbank.

Caroline and Charles were blessed with two daughters: Debra and Sandra.  Caroline cared for her children and also babysat for others.  When her daughters were older, she worked in the lunch room in the Milbank School District.  She later worked many years for Royal Insurance/Milbank Mutual Insurance until her retirement.

Caroline was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church in Milbank.  She and Charles loved to camp and spent a lot of time at Hart Ranch in Rapid City, SD.  She was a talented seamstress.  She and Charles always enjoyed their daily coffee time with friends at Trevett’s Café.  Most importantly, Caroline adored her grandsons and great-granddaughters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Brian Folk of Milbank, SD; Sandi and Frank Pelis of Milliken, CO; three grandsons: Ryan (Melanie) Folk of Sioux Falls, SD; Adam Folk of Milbank, SD; Corey Rethke of Loveland, CO; two great-granddaughters: Sierra Folk and Cassandra Folk; brother, Wally (Faye) Runge of Eagan, MN;  niece, Geri (Doug) Feiock and family of Eagan, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Delos and Alvina; and her husband, Charles.
