Janet Viola Grothe Deshayes was born January 26, 1938 in Tekamah, Nebraska to the late LeRoy Morrow and Mildred (Connie) Lydia Grothe. Mrs. Deshayes graduated from Tekamah High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Washington. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta where she served as Chapter Advisor, Rush Advisor and Province Director of Undergraduates. She was a 53-year member of P.E.O., serving as president to Chapter DK, Lincoln, Chapter AL, Reston and Chapter BL, Warrenton. She was president of the Downtown LaSertoma Club of Lincoln, and a member of Greenwich Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and Deacon Moderator. Jan was happiest in her kitchen cooking and baking for her family or entertaining family and friends with special dinners.Jan was fond of live theatre, art galleries and traveling with her daughter. She was an avid reader, especially mysteries, classical music and singing. Jan was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She adored her two children, Rachelle Kathryn and Michael Morrow, bragging about them as well as her grandchildren, Brieanna James (Montana), Michael Villagomez, Caroline Villagomez (Richmond), Nicholas Deshayes (Montana), and her great-grandson, Jesse James (Montana). She had special memories of spending family time with her two brothers, Earl Grothe (Kansas) and her late brother, George Grothe. Before retiring, she worked at the University of Nebraska for 24 years, a team member of the PALS Program, Haymarket Elementary School and Huntington Learning Center. Her pride and joy was being the owner and operator of Desserts 222, Lincoln, Nebraska. Survivors: Daughter Rachelle Kathryn Villagomez (Virginia), son and daughter-in-law Michael Morrow and Heidi Deshayes (Montana), grandchildren Michael C. Villagomez, Caroline M. Villagomez (Virginia), Nicholas M. Deshayes (Montana), Brieanna J. James (Montana), great-grandchild Jesse P. James (Montana), brother and sister-in-law Earl L. and Colleen Grothe (Kansas), and sister-in-law Mary Grothe (Wisconsin). She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Irv Deshayes, sister Edith Mary Grothe, and brother George W. Grothe. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
