Evelyn M. Berg Obituary

Evelyn Berg, age 91, of Milbank, SD,  passed away on November 30, 2020.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. If you are not comfortable attending the visitation or funeral service, please join friends and family at the graveside service at 12:00 noon at the LaBolt Cemetery.

While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to gather for visitations and services. The use of face masks by attendees is required, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep our facility clean. For those who prefer or require continued precautions, webcasting and/or livestreaming will be viewable on this website, below the obituary.

Evelyn Seehafer was born on July 8, 1929, in Corona, SD, to Fritz and Lizzie (Rohlfs) Seehafer. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona. Evelyn attended country school in Corona. She married Leslie Berg on July 26, 1946, and moved to the Berg family farm near LaBolt, where she lived until 2005. Leslie passed away on September 16, 1975. She married Ralph Claussen on May 26, 1990.

Evelyn was a busy farm wife, raising three boys: Warren, Kevin, and Jeff. She tried to attend as many of her boys’ ballgames as she could. Evelyn was well-known, in Milbank and the surrounding area, for her work doing interior painting, wall-papering, and refinishing woodwork. She liked working with her co-workers Joyce Peschong and Ardell Barck. Evelyn enjoyed bowling and golfing. She and Ralph made regular trips to Oklahoma to see her family and enjoy the warmer weather.

Evelyn was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaBolt. She was currently a member of Living Word Lutheran Church in Milbank.

Evelyn is survived by her sons: Warren (Jeanne) Berg of Strandburg; Kevin Berg of LaBolt; Jeff Berg of Calera, OK; 6 grandchildren: Shannon (Jenny) Berg, Lance (Bobbi) Berg, Erin Berg (Nick Sime), Taylor Berg (Ria Teske), Linsey (Keenan) Ervin, Traci (Stephen) Fuller; 9 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister Maxine Gerdes of California; and brother Duane Seehafer of Milbank.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Leslie, and Ralph; great-grandchildren: Nathan Berg, and Karley Ervin; sister Viola Frerichs; and brother Myron Seehafer.
