Janis Cathryn Turney, 54, of Abilene and formerly of Lubbock, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street. Ms. Turney was born July 20, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of the Exodus Metropolitan Community Church in Abilene for the past six years. Survivors include a son, D.J. Starks, Jr. of Dalhart; a daughter, Jeanne Froseth of Lorenzo; her mother, Elizabeth Turney of East Northport, New York; three brothers, Jim Turney of Clyde, Rick Turney of The Virgin Islands and Daniel Turney of Haxton, Colorado; a sister, Sharon Burke of East Northport, New York; five grandchildren, Damion Froseth, Christian Froseth, Ashlee Blea, Katelyn Starks and Makenzy Starks; a former husband, Larry Moore of Lorenzo; and a companion, Dan Bolden of Abilene. Ms. Turney was preceded in death by her father, Richard P. Turney. A visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday at Abilene Funeral Home. Janis will be remembered and missed by all.
