<p>Bernarda Alers, 92, of New Haven, beloved wife of 71 years to the predeceased Eugenio Alers, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico to the late Emilio and Andrea Cardona.</p> <p>Bernarda is survived by her six children: Eugenio (Myrna) Alers, Carlos Alers, Bedsaida (Ralphy) Soto, Elizabeth (Matt) Kerigan, Minerva Bonilla, Hector (Jennifer) Alers. Bernarda is also survived by two siblings; Ismael and Celia; she is survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four children: Adelaida Alers, Gladys Alers-Cuevas, Alexander Alers, and Richard Alers, as well as three brothers and one sister.</p> <p>She was a seamstress for over 40 years. Two of her accomplishments were owning a clothing store in the 70&rsquo;s and her love for cooking lead her to owning a&nbsp; Spanish restaurant in the 80&rsquo;s. Known as Mama and grandma, she will always be remembered for her cooking, love, strength and her devotion to her family and for being the most supportive and compassionate mother/grandmother that a child could ask for. Mama was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.</p> <p>Friends and family may gather at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. Funeral service and interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven at 12:30 p.m.</p> <p>The link for live streaming of the visitation hours will be available the day of the service.&nbsp; To view live streaming for the graveside service, please visit our Facebook page at&nbsp;https://www.facebook.com/KeenanFuneralHome.</p>
