Lu was born March 3, 1936, in East Moline, the daughter of Richard Vyncke and Genevieve Schulte Vyncke. She was a member of Alleman Catholic High School’s charter graduating class in 1953. She married Neil Summers on May 5, 1956, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, East Moline. They remained lovingly devoted to each other for 58 years, until his 2014 death.

Lu was a woman of extraordinary faith and was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she served numerous committees and groups. For 25 years she volunteered at the Franciscan Medical Center, now Trinity Rock Island. She was an avid golfer, playing with groups at both Saukie and Highland Springs, and volunteering many years at the Quad Cities Open, now John Deere Classic.

She was kind, was a gifted homemaker, and had a good sense of humor. “Grandma Lu” rarely missed her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved and was deeply loved by a large family and an even larger circle of friends.

Lu is survived by her five children, Terri (Roger) Jared, James Summers (Brendan Young), Jill (Rick) DeBlieck, Dawn Camlin, and Ann (Justin) Martel; grandchildren Angie Zaglauer, Tony (Amanda) Jared, David Jared, Marcel (Amber) DeBlieck, Troy (Kaley) DeBlieck, Katie (Shawn) Lemaster, Kody DeBlieck, Nick, Haley and Carlee Camlin, Courtney (Joey) Bustos, and Lyndsay and Jenavieve Martel; great-grandchildren, Kali Zaglauer, Chase, Nolan, and Violet Jared, Landyn, Luella, and Devin DeBlieck and Hunter and Lily Lemaster; sister Marlene (Mel) Gavin; brothers Jim (Glenda) and Wayne (Ruthann) Vyncke; and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Ruth Vyncke. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Paul, Leo, Joe, and Bill Vyncke.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Bickford of Moline and at Heartland Hospice for their compassion and devotion to Lu and our family.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2502 29th Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201 or to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center, 724 2nd Avenue W., Milan, IL 61264.
