Dinah Marion Collins Obituary

It is with saddened hearts the family of Dinah Marion Collins (nee Kikoak) announce her peaceful passing on the 14th of November, 2020 at the age of 64 after a hard fought battle with Covid-19. Dinah was born in Aklavik, NWT on December 31, 1955 to Rhoda and Bill Kikoak. Raised in the NWT, Dinah met Jeff in 1983 in Inuvik where he had moved to from Ontario to teach and coach wrestling. Dinah and Jeff were married in 1986 and began their family soon after. In 1990 Jeff and Dinah relocated to Ft. McMurray, raising son Tyler and daughters Kate and Rebecca. In addition to her devotion to motherhood, Dinah worked as a Teacher’s assistant to children with special needs. She loved being involved in the community, as evidenced by her involvement in Ft. McMurray Running, Mountain Bike and Judo clubs. She was a devoted fan and volunteer to her favourite hockey team, the Oil Barons. Dinah enjoyed and valued music, art and poetry, and volunteered at many Charity Jams. She also was passionately involved in her children’s interests and proudly attended as many of Tyler’s concerts, Rebecca’s games with the Keyano Huskies and Kate’s MMA fights as she was able. Dinah and Jeff also enjoyed training together at Bowman’s Gym where she was a great friend and inspiration to all. You could often find Dinah relaxing in the sunshine, listening to music, reading or doing a crossword and enjoying a cup of coffee. She had a wonderful sense of adventure, travelling in her lifetime across Canada and the USA where she especially loved hiking in the majestic Rocky Mountains. She also spoke often of her adventures with Jeff travelling in Scotland, Ireland, Paris, and Africa where together they summited Mt. Kenya. Despite many challenges she faced, Dinah’s sense of adventure and desire to live life to the fullest will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure to know her. Her caring and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by her family, friends and community. She is survived by her husband Jeff of 34 years, children Tyler (Stephanie), Kate (Mike) and Rebecca (Robert), and grandchildren Levi, Lennon, Leira and Maverick. Future date for Dinah’s Celebration of Life TBD.
