Daniel A. Hanczar Obituary

Daniel A. Hanczar, 68, of Oakdale, North Fayette Twp., passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 due to COVID-19. Dan was born on January 30, 1952 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Constantine and Alma (Windsheimer) Hanczar. Mr. Hanczar carried a master’s degree in education, which led him to teaching social studies at West Allegheny Middle School for 35 years. Dan was a talented musician and one-of-a-kind guitarist; he was a member of many bands and produced his own albums, performing from Rennerdale to the Jersey Shore to the Bahamas. He used his gifts to bring joy and help others in need by holding benefit concerts. Dan was a truly selfless and caring man, an environmental steward for West Allegheny Earthkeepers and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He attended Oakdale U.P. Church and St. Peter & St. Paul Orthodox Church. While his love for his community was exceptional, his love for his family was unmatched. For 47 years, Dan was most proud of raising a beautiful and loving family along side his beloved wife, Kate. Dan was rarely without a guitar in his hands. Family gatherings echoed with his voice, “Happy Birthday” serenades, jam sessions in the garage with family and friends. We are grateful for these memories and the legacy of his music allows a piece of him to live on. As he once wrote, “Thank God for music! Turn it up!” He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen “Kate” (Hartman) Hanczar of Oakdale, children; Nils (Stephanie Brea) Hanczar of Pittsburgh, Rory (Lynette) Hanczar of McDonald, Danielle (Mike) Jancel of Robinson Twp., and Katia (Tom Meyers Jr.) Hanczar of Oakdale, siblings; Bill (Deb) Hanczar, Connie (Henry) Yoder, Dave (Kris) Hanczar, and Greg (Patty) Hanczar, grandchildren; Max Kuzio, Lily and Rylan Hanczar, Nico and Mario Jancel. The family would like to thank the healthcare team at St. Clair Hospital that cared for Dan while he fought for 32 days, played his music, prayed with him, and held his hand in his last moments on earth while his family was unable, due to COVID-19 restrictions. In the words of Danny, “Remember to say a lot of sweet words to each other, forgive a lot, and love really a lot!” All arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Rd., Oakdale (724-693-2800). Because he was loved by so many, we are unable to congregate safely due to COVID-19 restrictions. A Christian memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date to honor him. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or plasma through your local blood bank. Dan’s family ask that you support the organizations that were most important to him and donate to the West Allegheny Food Bank, PO Box 527 105 West Allegheny Road, Imperial, PA 15126, Southwest Meals On Wheels, 601 McMillan St, Bridgeville, PA 15017, or the Northside Common Ministries, 1601 Brighton Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
