Judith Kavanagh Olk Obituary

Judith Kavanagh Olk (Judi) passed into eternal life on November 26, 2020. Born in Chicago to Frank Kavanagh and Beryl Kavanagh, she soon moved to Antigo, Wisconsin where she was raised along with her sister Joan and brothers Buzz and Billy. She truly loved her family. Judi was a 1958 graduate of Antigo High School and a 1962 graduate of Marquette University. After graduation and marriage, she moved to the Detroit Michigan area. Once in Detroit, she welcomed, with love, her daughters, Julie and Jill, and her son, Tom. She made many life long friends. In her forties, in addition to her role as loving mother, she went to law school at the University of Detroit graduating in December 1983 and then went on to earn an LLM in Taxation from New York University in 1985. She practiced law in Detroit, Chicago, and Wilmette before her retirement. She lived for many years in Wilmette, Illinois and Northfield, Illinois. Family was her glue. She joyfully welcomed into her family two son-in-laws, Steve Ehrlich and Russell Platt, and a daughter-in-law, Kasey Olk. She loved, with all her heart, her grandchildren - Henry, Daniel, Will, Maggie, Lilly, Bridget and Tommy. Spending time with her sister, Joan, her brother-in-law, Jim, and her brother, Buzz, and her nieces and nephews always brought a smile to her face. Judi loved to read, garden, play bridge, and talk politics. She never stopped learning. She was strong, smart and independent and will be missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Buzz and Billy and her brother-in-law Jim. Judi is survived by her daughters, Julie (Steve) Ehrlich and Jill (Russell) Platt, her son, Tom (Kasey) Olk, her grandchildren, Daniel and Will Ehrlich, Henry Platt, and Maggie, Lilly, Bridget, and Tommy Olk, her sister Joan (the late Jim) Carney, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held privately. Interment: Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
