John William "Bill" Hurd, Sr.

<p>Williamsport, Maryland- John William &ldquo;Bill&rdquo; Hurd, Sr., 91 of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday November 28, 2020 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Born December 20, 1928 in Chewsville, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence G. Sr. and Vergie A. Powles Hurd.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda &ldquo;Maxine&rdquo; Hurd on April 14, 2000.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>He owned and operated Hurd&rsquo;s Confectionary in Hagerstown, MD and was owner and operator of Hurd&rsquo;s Excavating and Septic Service in Williamsport, MD until his retirement.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>He was an avid hunter and fisherman.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Boll was of the Christian faith.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>He is survived by his girlfriend Dora Simmons of Clear Spring, MD, a son Allen Hurd of New Paris, OH, a son Jeff Hurd and his wife Luanne of Williamsport, MD, a daughter Debbie Landis and her husband Harry of Hagerstown, MD, 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son John W. Hurd, Jr., a daughter in law Margarita Hurd, sisters Evelyn &ldquo;Sis&rdquo; Keller, Christine Stone, Helen Myers and brothers Clarence Hurd, Jr., Marvin &ldquo;Dick&rdquo; Hurd, George &ldquo;Jim&rdquo; Hurd, Robert &ldquo;Bob&rdquo; Hurd, Bruce &ldquo;Bucky&rdquo; Hurd and Ronald Hurd.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The family will receive friends on Tuesday December 1, 2020 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795.&nbsp; For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open Tuesday at 9:00am.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. James Mueller ad Rev. Williamsport, Maryland- John William “Bill” Hurd, Sr., 91 of Williamsport, MD passed away on Saturday November 28, 2020 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

 

Born December 20, 1928 in Chewsville, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence G. Sr. and Vergie A. Powles Hurd.  He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda “Maxine” Hurd on April 14, 2000.

 

He owned and operated Hurd’s Confectionary in Hagerstown, MD and was owner and operator of Hurd’s Excavating and Septic Service in Williamsport, MD until his retirement.

 

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

 

Boll was of the Christian faith.

 

He is survived by his girlfriend Dora Simmons of Clear Spring, MD, a son Allen Hurd of New Paris, OH, a son Jeff Hurd and his wife Luanne of Williamsport, MD, a daughter Debbie Landis and her husband Harry of Hagerstown, MD, 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son John W. Hurd, Jr., a daughter in law Margarita Hurd, sisters Evelyn “Sis” Keller, Christine Stone, Helen Myers and brothers Clarence Hurd, Jr., Marvin “Dick” Hurd, George “Jim” Hurd, Robert “Bob” Hurd, Bruce “Bucky” Hurd and Ronald Hurd.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday December 1, 2020 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795.  For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open Tuesday at 9:00am.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. James Mueller ad Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery in Boonsboro, MD.

 

Masks are required to enter the funeral home as well as social distancing per local health department guidelines.
