John Marshall Harvey Sr.

John Marshall Harvey Sr. crossed the bar on the morning of November 20, 2020. Born, raised, and died in Riverdale as generations of Harveys before him. John was the son of Oscar Charol Harvey and Gertrude Marshall Harvey. John is survived by his best friend and wife of 55 years, Grace Hillard Harvey; son John M. Harvey Jr. and his wife Rhonda Pratl; cherished grandson John Ian Harvey; sisters Marilyn Gallivan of Weymouth, Ann Gibbs of Gloucester, and Susan Mayo of Nolanville, TX; many nieces, nephews, and cousins including the mighty Oak; also five brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law and many dear, lifelong friends. John is predeceased by his brother Frank C. Harvey and sister Mary J. Morrison. John owned and operated JM Harvey Glass for over 40 years. He twice served as Commander of AMVets Post 32 working tirelessly raising money for their scholarship fund. His zeal earned him the name ‘Hurricane Harvey.’ An avid golfer, John enjoyed his many golf trips as well as annual camping adventures to the south and southwest frequently including Mexico; famous for “I don’t fly, I drive to Mexico.” John truly loved the Gloucester shoreline and always felt the most beautiful spot was his own backyard watching the water and the sunsets from the porch of his Mill River home.
