Anna Katherine "Granny Jo" Courtney

A Bloomfield resident, Mrs. Katherine “Granny Jo” Courtney, age 90, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at G&R Farm. She was born March 6, 1930 in Owen County to the late Eddie Russell and Beulah H. McCurdy Riddle. She became a widow at the age of 38 and worked 2 jobs to raise her 5 small children and give them everything they wanted. Her hard work ethic continued as she studied to receive her GED at the age of 70, the same age she got her first tattoo. Granny Jo was the crazy granny you saw on facebook, who enjoyed fishing, quilting, and spending time with her grandbabies. She was the rock of the family and was an amazing woman to all who knew her. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Powell Courtney, a daughter, Karen Courtney, 4 grandchildren, Amy, Jesse, Raymond Joseph, Courtney Allen, and 8 brothers and sisters. She is survived by 3 daughters, Vickie Courtney of Frankfort, Darlene Sageser of Campbellsville, Ruby (Greg) Redmon of Bloomfield, 1 son, Gary (Lisa) Courtney of Mt. Washington, 2 sisters, Ida Mae Downey of Frankfort, Vivian Woodson of Shepherdsville, 1 brother, Clifford (Linda) Riddle of Michigan, 9 grandchildren, Bobby, Chris, Amy, Katie, Brandy, Tasha, Chris, Shawn and Garrett, 12 great-grandchildren, Morrisa, Seth, Shyanna, Mckenzie, Jake, Shaylah, Aiden, Hunter, Grayson, Cade, Ethan and Willow. A memorial service for Mrs. Anna Katherine Courtney will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Chaplin Christian Church. Rev. Randall Burgin will officiate. Memorial visitation will be from Saturday 12:00 pm until time of the service at 3:00pm. The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
