Joseph Andrew Berg, Sr., 47, longtime New Castle resident and beloved husband, father, son, and uncle passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2020, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Joey, as he was known to his large close-knit family, is survived by his loving wife, Mikki Lynn (Lovlie) Berg; his son, Joseph Andrew Berg, Jr.; his mother, Emily Jane Allen Benn and her husband Bill Benn; sisters, Melissa J. Merritt (Gary) and Patricia L. Monaco (Sam); mother & father-in-law, Mary & Arne Lovlie, sister-in-law, Molly G. Gill, brother-in-law, AJ Lovlie (Vanessa); his nieces, Annastasia Merritt, Giada Monaco, Guiliana Monaco, Savannah Gill, Avelyn Lovlie and his nephew, Jeffery Merritt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Tidman Berg, and his grandparents, Joseph A. Berg, Frances T. Berg, Jane McKinney Allen and Dr. Homer Richard Allen.

Joey was born in New Castle, Pa. on September 2, 1973 to Emily Allen Berg (Benn) and Joseph T. Berg.

He graduated from Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School as an Auto Mechanic in the School of Trades and obtained a B.S. undergraduate degree in Internet Technology from Pennsylvania State University (Shenango). Joey held many positions in his short lifetime, most notably an over-the-road truck driver, Mechanic, and has been employed for the past five years as a supervisor in data storage at the Pennsylvania Social Security Office.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mikki, on August 14, 1993. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his extended family and friends.

Joey knew how to get the most out of this life. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing with his son, and a good bonfire. He loved any adventure and took every chance he got to travel. He participated in mission trips to Peru and Costa Rica which he talked about often.

He knew how to fix anything and if he didn’t, he knew who did. He had a close-knit group of friends that he remained close with since he was a kid. He enjoyed doing “projects” of any kind. He had a love for trains that he passed down to his son. He took care of everyone around him selflessly. His beautiful smile and infectious laugh were the life of any party. Joey made an impact on this world and he didn’t even know it. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family will conduct a celebration of life service at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Burial will take place at Castleview Cemetery.
