Betty J. Richards Obituary

Betty J. Richards, age 83, passed away Thursday evening, November 26, 2020 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Nashville.

Betty was born on July 2, 1937 in Indianapolis to her parents, the late Robert and Josephine (Crafton) Richards.  After earning her degree in Nursing from IUPUI she worked at the Indiana Masonic Home for 10 years and later retired in 2004 from IU Health Bloomington Hospital after 20 years of service.

Betty was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville. She was a member of the Historical Society and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Brown County. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing beautiful blankets and doilies for her friends and family. She square danced for over 52 years and was a member of the Bucks and Does Square Dancing Club. Betty was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and looked forward to attending the Indianapolis 500 every year. She loved making her famous fudge for family gatherings and for friends and family around the holidays.

She will be missed by her children: Michael (Rhondalyn) Smith of Lebanon, Bambi Coates and Mitchell (Dianna) Smith both of Markleville, Martin “George” (Melissa Bradley) Smith of Sheridan; 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; siblings: Stanley (Vicky) Richards of Tennessee, Steven (Dixie) Richards of Colorado, Dennis (Carol) Richards of Florida, Kay (Eddie) Patterson of Nashville, Janet Polaski of Michigan and Kathy (Mark) Dinwiddie of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Hutchison and a son Mark Smith.

A graveside Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
