Stanley Armstrong Obituary

Stanley Garfield Armstrong, Sr. entered his eternal rest on Friday, November 27 2020, while at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1945 in Chesapeake, Virginia the seventh of 11 children born to the late Willie and Annie Armstrong.

He was affectionately known and called by family and friends as AKA- “Laygale and “Big Dog.”  He grew up in South Norfolk. Stanley was educated in the Chesapeake School System, in elementary Waterford and he attended Carver High School. In high school, he played baseball, and football. In baseball, he played short-stop. He was a fearless cornerback, running back and punt returner; wearing number “28” on the football gridiron.  While attending high school, he enrolled in a masonry class that prepared him in becoming a brick mason and contractor. He also was employed for many years by J. G. Wilson Manufacturing Company in the sheet metal department.  

Stanley was a kind, a giving, and a passionate individual. He captivated any person whom he met with a sense of humor, and comedy. He paved a trail on the streets of South Norfolk as he frequently would take a walk in the neighborhood.  He possessed a spirit of hospitality that opened the doors of his home to anyone who had a need.  Stanley was a “diehard- Dallas Cowboy fan and he enjoyed listening to gospel music.  Stanley was raised in a Christian home and he accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Spirit of Truth Ministries, where he was an avid participant in Sunday School, morning worship service, Bible study and the Men’s Fellowship ministry.   

He is preceded in death by his parents Willie Armstrong, Sr. and Annie Armstrong. Brother Willie Armstrong, Jr. and sisters, Ora Hinton, Lena Malone and Juanita Easley. Stanley leaves to cherish his memory one sister Maude Armstrong of Temple Hills, Md. Five brothers; Eugene Armstrong of Chesapeake, Howard ( Rita) Armstrong of San Antonio ,Tx. Pastor Tyrone ( Lucy) Armstrong of Norfolk , Calvin ( Detra) Armstrong, and Martin( Sharon) Armstrong all of Chesapeake. Children- Stanley Armstrong, Jr., Felicia Armstrong, Doreen Hyde, Brian ( Sonya) Armstrong, Tashara Bell, Krystle Bell,  Catrina Bell, and Terrinus Bell. 14 Grandchildren ,4 Great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews , cousins and loving friends.
