NEW BEDFORD-Maria A. (Frias) Rosonina, 90, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family . She was the widow of João L. Rosonina and daughter of the late José and Maria (Alexandre) Frias. Born in Ribeira Quente, St. Michael, Azores, she came to this country in 1967 and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Maria devoted her life to her children. They described her as an amazing woman and a great Mom who was a mentor to her entire family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her leisure time she enjoyed painting and knitting. Her family includes her 3 sons, Dinarte J. Rosonina and his wife, Susan of Mims, FL, Paul G. Rosonina and his wife, Christina of So. Dartmouth and Nelson M. Rosonina and his spouse, Manuel P. Tavares of Westport; her 4 daughters, Lucy C. Medeiros and her husband, John Luis of So. Dartmouth, Maria D. Santos and her husband, José of New Bedford, Isabel M. Cardoso and her husband, Carlos of Fairhaven and Zelia C. Sarmento and her husband, Paul of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Conceicão Linhares of Canada and Ivelia Frias of Dartmouth; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Libania Matos and José, João and Zacarias Frias. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 6:00-8:00. Her funeral will be conducted on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 8:00 A.M. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Due to current restrictions, interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please be advised that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. You MUST wear a mask to be allowed entry to the services. Please practice social distancing and avoid any close contact. Guests will be permitted to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter. Capacity at the funeral home will be limited so there could be wait times outside the funeral home. Capacity in the church is also limited.Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
