Shari Delp Gardner Obituary

Shari Delp Gardner, 67, passed away on November 26, 2020.  Born August 2, 1953 to Jack and Donna Tycer Delp, Shari was raised on the ranch south of Hardin.  She graduated from Hardin High School in 1972, from Montana State University in 1976 with a BS in Physical Education, and from University of Montana in 1988 with a BS in Education - but she was always a Bobcat at heart.   Shari was an avid roper and barrel racer and she excelled in both.  As a young girl, she participated in 4-H ten years and was a National 4-H Horse Project winner.  She was active in high school rodeo, winning the State All-Around Cowgirl Championship and saddle in 1972.   Shari made the Montana State Rodeo team all four years, winning many regional awards.  She also placed at the Nationals three out of the four years.  She continued to rodeo for another 15 years in Montana and surrounding states.  Shari was also a member of the Denver Star Team Rodeo that won the first National Championship over Tulsa.  Throughout her years of rodeo, Shari received many saddles, buckles, trophies, and a horse trailer.  In 1989, Shari married Raymond Gardner of Winnett.  They raised their boys on their ranch north of Winnett.  Shari loved to rope and made sure to pass that on to her sons the second they were able to pick up a rope.  She especially loved her horses – breeding, raising, and training them.  Shari could be seen watching her boys rope at every rodeo across the state, beaming with pride at the legacy she had created.  Shari loved ranching and everything that came along with it, but she also loved teaching.  Shari taught several years at Poplar and Grass Range, before ultimately going to Winnett.  She taught at Winnett for 22, years, starting with grade school and P.E., and then the Title One program.  For the last few years, Shari enjoyed her retirement on the ranch and at her winter getaway to Arizona, where she was able to enjoy the warmth and the company of good friends.  Shari loved her family, horses, dogs, and the ranch.  She was a devout Christian and strong in her faith when God called her home.   Shari is survived by her husband of 31 years, Raymond Gardner; her sons, Colt (Kelsey, grandson, Chaz) Gardner of Alzada, MT and Jade Gardner of Winnett, MT; stepson, Kale Gardner (grandchildren, Maeleigh and Chief) of Arlee, MT; her mother, Donna Delp of Ballantine, MT; her brothers, Dean (Janie) Delp of Hardin, MT and Lyle (Zale) Delp of Wittmann, AZ; her uncle, Bob (Donna) of Richey, MT; in-laws, Richard and Ivy Gardner of Shepherd, MT; sister-in-law, Teri (K.C.) Weingart of Winnett, MT; brother-in-law, Scott (Pam) Gardner of Comfrey, MN; as well as four cousins and numerous second cousins and nieces and nephews. Shari is preceded in death by her father, Jack Delp; her paternal grandparents, Hobert and Margaret Delp; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Jessie Tycer; and her aunt, Alice (Ray) Haugland.   Services will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 in the Winnett School Auditorium; Potluck to follow. Donations in Shari’s memory can be made to the University of Montana – Western Rodeo Team, Gateway Christian Center, or the Petroleum County Community Center.   Arrangements are under the care of Creel Funeral Home.
