Philip Kay Fry Obituary

Philip Kay Fry, age 85, passed away on November 25, 2020, at the Central Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center, as he succumbed to the China virus while in the late stages of dementia.  Phil was born in East Nantmeal, Pennsylvania, on September 20, 1935 as the fifth of ten children of Herbert and Margaret Fry. At the age of 10, most of the family relocated to Lewistown, Montana, where Herbert served as a minister in the Baptist church and ran a family plumbing business. At the age of 19, in December of 1954, he married his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Cauley) Fry.  Pat and Phil had seven children in their first eight years of marriage, and eventually had nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Pat and Phil tended to move around throughout their lives and their homes included Seattle, Puyallup and Sumner, Washington; Glendale, Phoenix and Wittmann, Arizona; and Lewistown, Glasgow and Denton, Montana.   Phil had several occupations through the years and was quite the handyman.  He primarily earned his living from plumbing and he was always willing to use these skills to help his large family through the years. He held strong opinions and was a bit of a rebel. In the 1970’s he sported shoulder-length hair and a beard and was affectionately known by some of his many nieces and nephews as “Uncle Groovy”.  To his many grandchildren he was known as Pop-pop.    Phil’s final years were difficult as his spirit was slowly and steadily taken from this earth from dementia. This may have been a blessing as he was not fully aware of the passing of the love of his life, Patricia, two years ago. His passing from the China plague was relatively quick and painless.   Phil was dearly loved and will forever be missed by his friends and his large family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his siblings, (Herbert, Robert, David and Lois), his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and David Shepard, his grandson James Lane, and his great grand-daughter Jaden Lane. Phil is survived by his children: Philip R Fry, Christine (Carey) Adkins, Susan Gillette, Barbara (Larry) Witham, Patricia Fry, and Michael (Jill) Fry, and his grandchildren: Jeremy, Sarah, Emily, Phil, Tim, Michelle, Patrick, Cameran, Annie, Justin, CJ, Mikey, Kyle, Gabrielle, Michael, Candace, Alex, and Stephen, and their nearly 50 great-grandchildren.   A Family Service will be held at Creel Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (limited seating /mask guidelines).  Graveside Services will be July 30, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Creel Funeral Home. Philip’s family and friends may share memories and offer condolences at www.creelfuneralhome.com
