Lonnie Matney, Jr., 81 years of age of Grundy, VA, passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born June 7, 1939 in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Lonnie Matney, Sr., and Elsie Branham Matney. Lonnie was a retired coal miner and member of UMWA, a member of Word Evangelist Outreach Church, enjoyed four wheeling and spending time with his family. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Juanita McCoy Matney, son Larry Matney, sister Thelma Hensley, brothers Acie Matney, Johnny Matney, Dewey “Fats” Matney and Estil Matney. Survivors include his daughters Lisha Breeding and husband Donnie of Grundy, VA, Christine Burks and husband Richard of Abingdon, VA; sisters Virgie Whitt of TN, Shirley McCoy of Hurley, VA; brothers Ronnie Matney and wife Dreama, Darrell Matney and wife Vera, Kenny Matney and wife Diane all of Michigan, Alford Matney and wife Vickie of Blountville, TN. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kristie Leonard and husband Bryan, Jason Breeding and wife Kacie, Cayla Epling and husband Cody, Kristen Burks, great-grandchildren Jakob Breeding, Savannah Breeding, Julianna Breeding, and Cayden Epling, several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service for Lonnie Matney, Jr., will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 12:00 noon with Elder Danny Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Emory McCoy Cemetery on Guesses Fork Road, Hurley, VA. Active pallbearers will be his family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Sunday, after 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon.
