Click HERE to view Funeral Services for David Wahlquist Our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, David Mark Wahlquist, 65, returned to his Heavenly home on November 24, 2020. He was born February 5, 1955 in Coronado, California to Maurene Elizabeth (Kennedy) and Mark LeRoy Wahlquist. He married his best friend Stella Mae Thompson in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on August 11, 1978. He is preceded in death by his father, Mark LeRoy Wahlquist. He is survived by his loving wife, Stella; sons and daughters, Adam David and Alyssa Wahlquist, D. Rhen and Melissa Aldridge, and Daniel Mark and Heather Wahlquist; his 11 grandchildren, his mother, Maurene Wahlquist, his siblings, and so many he called friends. Dave was an extraordinary man. From a very young age, it was evident that he had a remarkable spirit. His mom would tell you that he was as close to a perfect child as you could hope for. He always did his best to make the choices he felt were right. He was an avid goal-setter, driven to make the world a better place. And he was successful. One of his most impactful experiences was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Holbrook Mission, where he learned Navajo and developed a great love for the Lamanite people. This is where he first met Stella, but he didn’t know then what a significant role she would play in his life. When he returned from his mission, he was called to serve in the Salt Lake City Lamanite ward, where he once again crossed paths with Stella. After Dave convinced Stella to marry him over her many other suitors, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. She was his “Biih”; the love of his life. They raised Adam, Melissa and Daniel together, providing them the choicest of opportunities, the most loving of homes, and an enduring love for their God and their fellow man. Dave graduated from the University of Utah and later attended J. Rueben Clark Law School at BYU. Following his legal education, he was fortunate to join Kirton McConkie, where he worked his entire career as an advocate and arbitrator. He was accomplished in his field and received many honors and recognitions. He loved and respected his colleagues and took pride in his association with them. To know Dave was to love him. He was truly a friend to all. There wasn’t a trip to the grocery store, the dry cleaners, a ballgame, or even touring out of town where he didn’t run into somebody he knew. He simply loved people and spent his entire life working to help others see the best in themselves. He was humble, kind, obedient, and honest. He worked hard to be an example to all. He was very goal-oriented. For many years he has set yearly, monthly, and weekly goals and worked diligently to accomplish them. He loved good music and loved to sing. His kids and grandchildren cherish the silly songs that he has made up about them. He loved to read. He loved to learn. He was very knowledgeable and loved to teach and share his knowledge. He was a gifted teacher who loved to share the gospel. Dave’s greatest joy came from serving the Lord. He was blessed with many opportunities to serve and to share his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Dave, knew that he gave the best bear hugs. He was often referred to as a “Gentle Giant”. He was kind, soft-spoken, and never said an unkind word about anyone. He always found and pointed out the good in everyone. He will be greatly missed.
