Maria H. Almeida

Maria Helena (Reis Café) Almeida, 69, of West Hartford, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, Thanksgiving Day, at home with her family by her side from complications to Alzheimer’s. Daughter of the late Julia Isabel (Reis) Café and Jose Batista Dos Santos Café, she was born on June 24, 1951 in Moitas Venda, Portugal. Survived by her husband Antonio N. Almeida of West Hartford, daughter Silvia Almeida of Newington, son Miguel Almeida of West Hartford and her beloved pet Nico. Prior to retirement she was employed by Hartford Hospital. Maria is known to everyone as Lena. Lena loved to garden and had a passion for flowers. She also enjoyed cooking for her family especially during her favorite holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mom had a passion for shopping and decorating. Lena also leaves behind her brother Martinho Café and Grace Café of Newington, sisters Isabel Fernandes and Julia Matilde of Moitas Venda Portugal. She also leaves her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law in Portugal. Maria also leaves many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends both of Newington and Portugal as well as her beloved Godsons Simao Matilde of Portugal and David Café of Newington. She was very devoted to her family and there was nothing she would not do for them. Her loving dog Max predeceased her. The family would like to extend their gratitude and support to Hartford Healthcare’s home hospice team especially her nurses Katie L., Mary Cay, Mary M., Cynthia and Bridget. Everyone treated mom with the most respect and care she needed. Lena will be lovingly laid to rest at West Meadow Cemetery in Newington on Monday, November 29, 2020, at 2pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend but social distancing and masks are required. Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is assisting her family.
