Barbara Ann Padgett Black, age 81 was born June 26, 1939 at Louisville, Kentucky to the late James Thomas and Mary Katherine Thompson Padgett. Barbara passed away November 25, 2020 in Depauw, Indiana. Surviving are her children, Kimberly Ann Black, George “Butch” William Black III (Donna), Thomas “Chris” Christopher Black (Teresa) and Wendy Kay Black (Lori): Grandchildren, Jeremy Deitsch, Jayla Deitsch, Jordan Black, Kyle Black, Chelsey Bohnert, Lindsey Lloyd, Dawson Black, Katie Songer, Ethan Black & Jaden Black: 12 Great Grandchildren. September 19, 1958 she married her late husband of 53 years, George “Buddy” William Black, Jr. who passed away May 26, 2012. Barbara’s parents worked at Lorillard’s until their retirement. Barbara went to high school at Presentation Academy. Barbara went to college while raising her children and became a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville. In 1968 Barbara and Buddy bought a small farm in Depauw, Indiana where they lived until their passing. Barbara’s first job in Harrison County was Director of Nursing at Corydon Nursing Home, worked 25 years as a nurse for Dr. David Dukes until his retirement. She also worked for Dr. William Dukes, Dr. Bodney and Dr. Gonzaba until her retirement. Barbara was active in politics and the community. She was Vice Chairman of the Harrison County Democratic Party for 8 years and was the first female chairman of the Harrison County Democratic Party, where she served for another 8 years. Barbara loved life, helping others and lived for her family. Funeral 11 AM Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Swarens Funeral Home, with burial at Mount Zion Cemetery, Depauw, IN. Visitation Friday 4 – 8 PM And after 9 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
