Shirley "Earlene" Countryman Obituary

EARLENE COUNTRYMAN, 95, so lovingly entered Heaven’s gate to be reunited with her husband, Clifford, on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Overlook Village Assisted Living in Moline, IL while in Hospice care. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date at Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline, IL. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son. Memorials may be made to River Bend Food Bank in Moline, IL. Shirley Earlene (Heston) Countryman was born on October 29, 1925 in Fairfield, IA to Emil and Norabelle (Shirkey) Heston. She was the feisty sister with a twin brother, Earl, along with six more brothers LaVerne, Max, Merle, Donald, Emil Jr., Kenny, and one sister Betty Jean. Earlene was a well-spoken, independent young woman. She met Clifford Countryman of Douds, IA while working at Dexter Washing Machine. They married soon after on October 12, 1947 at Elim Covenant Church in Moline, IL. Together they built a monumental family including 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Her son, Jim Countryman, unexpectedly preceded her in death on April 25, 2020, and husband Clifford on September 12, 2003. Some of Earlene’s favorite pastimes included visiting with family and friends, playing cards, staying up late, listening to talk radio, watching Cubs and Cardinals baseball games, game shows, and doing crossword puzzles. All while drinking coffee, of course. And if you knew her well, you knew her love of chocolate and sweets. Earlene greatly adored her grandchildren. She cherished every moment she was able to spend with them. Moreover, she was remarkably proud of all their achievements. Earlene is survived by her children- Denny (Bonnie) Countryman of Dixon, IL, Linda (Frank) Dexter of Moline, IL, Julie Countryman of Moline, IL, and Jeff (Traci) Countryman of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Tim (Dawn) Countryman, Mike (Sarah) Countryman, Kelly Dexter, Ryan (Jamie) Dexter, Bailey (Dan Baker) Countryman, Corbin Countryman, and Karsyn Countryman; great-grandchildren- Katie, Alex, Will, Emma, Maddie, Luke, Evan, Darby, Libby, and Anna; and brother Kenny (Carolyn) Heston of Ankeny, IA. Earlene’s faith in God brings her family comfort and peace in knowing she was welcomed into Heaven with open arms to enter upon eternal life.
