Master Layton Gene Johnson

Mt. Croghan, SC

           Master Layton Gene Johnson, 11- month-old son of Courtney E. Hancock and Senerio Johnson, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, November 24, 2020. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Kyle Oliver and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at the Johnson home, 314 James Street, Chesterfield, SC.

          On December 23, 2019 at 10:20 AM, God sent down the first of 2 beautiful gifts, weighing 1lb. and 12 ounces, to Courtney Elizabeth Hancock and Senerio Jay’quinn Johnson. Layton entered this world a strong fighter and overcame all odds in his early days. He was the proud twin brother (and older by 3 minutes) of Lennox Charlie Johnson. They had the special and unique bond that twins often share, and Layton was the big brother in every sense of the word, always protecting Lennox.

          “Lay-Lay” as he was affectionately called by his family was a handsome little fellow with beautiful curls and a smile that could light up the darkest room. He was always in the best mood, but occasionally when he needed to cry, his favorite word was “Ma-Ma.” He enjoyed watching tv, and his favorite cartoon was Garfield, with Mickey Mouse being a close second. Lay-Lay enjoyed playing with his mom and dad’s cell phones, jumping in his bouncy seat, and of course requesting his “Pa-Pi,” his code name for his pacifier.

          Lay-Lay’s favorite snack was animal crackers, and he was in no way, shape, or form, a fan of vegetables, especially peas. Just a few days ago, Santa made an early delivery and Layton was able to enjoy his motorized car. Although he couldn’t sit still that long, he was always ready to go for a ride. He also enjoyed attending Fairview Baptist Church with his family, and Mom always made sure he was looking sharp.

          Although Layton’s life on this earth has been much too brief, he has been united and spending eternity with his paternal great grandmother, Bonnie Jean Johnson; and maternal grandparents, Charlie Franklin Hancock, Jr., and Lisa Sellers Hancock.

          Those left to cherish his incredible memory are his mom and dad, Courtney E. Hancock & Senerio J. Johnson of Mt. Croghan, SC; twin brother, Lennox Charlie Johnson; paternal grandparents, Leaticia Johnson & Curtis Tyson of Chesterfield, SC; maternal great grandparents, Lucy Hancock (Jerry) Hannah of Mt. Croghan, SC; paternal uncles, Keelan Antoine Johnson, Sergio Sanchez Johnson, and C.J. Jaquan Johnson; paternal aunts, Leativia Chyda Johnson and her children, Jaden & Aubrey; Danielle Joines and her children, Ethan & Everr; maternal uncles, Randall Quinton (Michelle) Hancock of Ruby, SC and their daughter, Miranda, Kevin Chadwick Hancock of Mt. Croghan, SC; and special aunts, Raven Little, Dale Tarlton, and Gail Morton.
