MANNING – Walton Sigmond Newman, 72, husband of Helen Jackson Newman, died Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at McLeod Health Clarendon.
Born September 20, 1948, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Sidney Allen Newman and the late Maudena Baker Newman. He was a volunteer with the Manning and Clarendon County Fire Departments, a Mason, and a member of Manning First Baptist Church. He was a retired supervisor with Santee Cooper Cooperative.
He is survived by his wife of Manning; four children, Tammy Watson (Rob) of Blythewood, Chad Walton Newman (Kim) of Winnsboro, Kathleen Ott (Kyle Jernigan) of Manning and Mary McLeod (Andy) of Laurens; five grandchildren, Josh, Brooke, Claudia, Buddy and Garrett; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Proctor (Walter, Jr.) of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Margaret Newman of Surfside Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Proctor III officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Kathleen Ott, 1234 Pine Ridge Road, Manning.
