Charles M. Wheeler Obituary

Charles “Charlie” M. Wheeler, age 94, resident of Pulaski passed away Tuesday at his home. Charles was born April 6, 1926 in Williamstown, the son of Charles E. and Nettie L. Wafful Wheeler. He graduated from APW Schools in 1944 and served in the United States Army in 1949. Charlie was married to Phoebe Britton on May 27, 1950. He was employed by the APW School District as a groundskeeper and retired in 1986. He was formerly employed by Solvay Process, Camden Wire and the NYS Conservation Department. In the 1970’s he played in a country western band, The North Country Troubadours. He played guitar, fiddle and harmonica. Charlie loved to watch the NY Yankees and do crossword puzzles. He was a 45-year member of the Williamstown American Legion Post #1128. Surviving are his wife, Phoebe, sons, Casey (Donna) Wheeler of Columbia City, OR, Albert (Patricia) Wheeler of South Portland, ME, Stephen (Karen) Wheeler of Lacona and a daughter, Sarah (Nick) Wansink of Pulaski, grandchildren, Ryan (Summer Unsinn) Wheeler, Claire (Petra Rowan Rhines) Wheeler, Emily (Zoe Latil) Wheeler, Stephen Wheeler II, Benjamin (Bethany) Wheeler, Samantha Wheeler, Colin Wansink and Libbie Wansink, great-granddaughter, Áine Wheeler and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles was predeceased by brother Kenneth and sisters Laura Mae, Libbie and Edith. The family would like to thank the staff at Crouse Hospital, floor 6N, CNY Hospice, Lisa Donahue and Sherry Rogers—his caregivers, and niece Peggy Kennedy for always helping in whatever was needed and always making his favorite custard. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 29th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williamstown American Legion, 8 Vida Drive, Williamstown, NY 13493 or CNY Hospice.
