Litea Kinikini Naeata Obituary

View Funeral Webcast Litea Kinikini Naeata was born on July 12, 1948 in Fahefa, Tonga. She was the seventh of nine children born to Sione Vaiokema Kinikini of ʻUiha, Haʻapai and ʻOfa-ki-ʻUiha Hoko Kinikini of Fahefa, Tonga. Litea was raised in Fahefa and Vaotuʻu. Litea loved to play the ukulele. She learned many songs from her father who was a renowned musician. Litea was known for her giggling, joking, and laughing. She especially loved to tease her brothers, Paula and Metui, and her sisters Valu and Lose. Litea was married to Vainga-ki-Moana Naeta. They had two children, Siosaia Naeata and Kaloni Kakala Naeata Taumohaapai. In 1971, Litea migrated to the United States, settling in Salt Lake City, Utah where their family was strong members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints faith. During her adult life in America, Litea worked as a nurse assistant at St. Joseph Villa and as a jewelry specialist at O.C. Tanner. Litea spent many years after retirement helping to raise her grandson, Alexander Naeata Pittman and was also a loyal companion and caregiver to her mother, ‘Ofa. In her later years, Litea retired early due to a physical ailment and was cared for by many loving family members and Bristol Hospice. Litea was a temple worthy member of the Taylorsville 6th Ward. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Manu Pupuʻa, brothers Paula and Metui Kinikini, and daughter Kaloni. She is survived by her son Siosaia Naeata (Malia) of Auckland, New Zealand, grandchildren Alex, Mele, ʻOfa, Tangi, and Kaloni, and by her sisters, Selita Valu(Paul) Tamoua and Lose (‘Aisake) Tukuafu and brothers Vaiokema Semisi Hoko, Daniel (Mayone) Kinikini, Sateki “Kini” Kinikini, and their numerous nieces, nephews, great-grand nieces and great grand-nephews. She will be remembered and missed dearly. As she leaves this mortal plane, we take comfort knowing a great musical reunion in heaven takes place as she rejoins her parents ʻOfa and Vaiokema, her daughter, Kaloni, and the many ancestors who welcome her home to their loving embrace.
