ASSONET, MA—Joseph P. Monteiro, Jr., 74, a longtime resident of Assonet, MA, passed away unexpectedly at RI Hospital on November 17, 2020. He was the husband for nearly 50 years of Margaret (Oliver) Monteiro.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph Monteiro and the late Anna B. (Costa) Monteiro, he was a 1964 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a radar repair specialist, often working in forward areas during the conflict.

After this he became a master electrician by trade and held numerous other trade licenses. He worked most of his career in various positions at Gemco Electric of Fall River (now Teknikor).

Joseph attained his private pilot’s license at the age of 16. He owned and enjoyed sailboats for a number of years. He was a member of the German Club in Warren, RI, and a member of the Freetown V.F.W.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Mark Monteiro and his wife Kerrie) of Taunton; a daughter, Karen Monteiro of Denver, CO; a brother, Richard Monteiro of Woonsocket, RI; and four grandchildren, Zoe and Connor Monteiro, Nathan and Nicolas Barr.
