He was the first born of three children.</p><p><br></p><p>Ben received his formal education in the Kansas City Public Schools. He graduated from Summer High School in 1965. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for four years as a Sergeant E4. After his tour of duty, he worked for the Kansas City Police Department for four years. He later worked for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (Metro Bus), retiring in June 2007, after 35 years of service.</p><p><br></p><p>Ben met and married the love of his life Emma Jean on May 3rd, 1980, and they have been inseparable for 40 years. He often talked about God blessing him with a wife who could cook just like his mother. Ben accepted the Lord as his personal Savior while attending a church service at St. John’s Temple COGIC, where his sister was ministering. He later became a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.C. Higgs and later a faithful member of Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ricky Turner. While attending Oak Ridge he served on the finance committee and was a member of the male chorus.</p><p><br></p><p>During a previous marriage, Ben was blessed with three children, two sons, Eric Wayne Wilson Sr., Ben E. Wilson, Jr. and one daughter, Lauretta Janae Wilson. </p><p><br></p><p>Ben enjoyed road trips, taking photographs and fishing. He also loved to barbecue, staying connected with family and friends, checking on them and sending his own personalized greeting cards. </p><p><br></p><p>Ben, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Reuben David Wilson.</p><p><br></p><p>He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Emma Jean; his sons, Eric (Lisa) Wayne Wilson Sr. of Kansas City, MO and Ben (Sara) Wilson, Jr. of Memphis TN; one daughter, Lauretta Janae Wilson of Dallas TX; a sister, Carolyn L. Cofield (Charles) of Kansas City KS; a special cousin that is more like a brother, Ira (Evelina) Dean of Ft. Worth, TX; 11 grandchildren, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended church and spiritual families, as well a host of close friends and loved ones.</p>
