Edith Marie Shreaves Obituary

Edith Marie Shrieves was born on March 30, 1925 in Mappsville, Virginia, to the late James “Bud” and Minnie Keyes Shrieves. She quietly departed this life on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Peak Healthcare at Hartley Hall in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Edith was educated in the Accomack County School System, but left at an early age to help care for her siblings remaining at home after losing their mother at a young age. She professed her love for Jesus Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church in Mappsville, Virginia under the pastorate of Reverend M. T. Boone. Edith renewed her fellowship later in life and loved going to church regularly to listen to His word through sermon and songs. Her favorite hymn was “The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow” and she could often be heard singing these lyrics when performing her various duties around the house. She truly believed the message of these lyrics and it was that faith that carried her through. Edith was a hard-working woman who worked tirelessly for many years doing various farm work, house work and worked at Taylor Packing Company as well as Taylor and Fulton until she retired. She loved being around family and friends and having her daily phone conversations with first her older sister, Lucille and sister-in-law, Louise, and later with her niece, Alice who was almost like a daughter. Edith enjoyed cooking, working in her flower gardens, watching her soap operas, and listening to her gospel music. She was often soft spoken, but would speak her mind when she felt it was needed. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by six brothers, Henry, James, Harry Lee, Paul, Howard, and Robert Shrieves and five sisters, Lucille Brown, Nancy Shrieves, Sadie Bailey, Madeline Pettit, and Rosie Mae Brown. She leaves to cherish fond memories: four children, Bobby (Gloria) Shrieves, Agatha (Eugene) Patterson, both of Temperanceville, VA, Darlene (Arthur) Dickerson of Accomac, VA, and Richie Shrieves of Bloxom, VA; twelve grandchildren, Craig Morris, Brandon Shrieves, Keia Shrieves-Broadwater, Bobby Shrieves, Jr., Katrice Shrieves, Kamesha Sample, Byrell Shrieves, Richie Shrieves, Jr., Rashad Shrieves, Wychita Ross, Tarah Boone, and Lassiter Johnson; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. So sleep on dear mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, cousin, and friend until we meet again. Until that time, we will miss you, but we will always carry your precious memories in our hearts and will always take solace in knowing that “The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow.”
