Mrs. Sandra J. Masterson, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 9:50 pm Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.

Sandra was born August 28, 1937 in Tipton, Iowa the daughter of Loren and Kathryn (nee Roberts) Carlisle. She married Robert L. Masterson on September 5, 1959 in Tipton, Iowa.

Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Robert; her children, Deborah (Lou) Signorelli of Morton, Illinois, Brian (Jennifer) Masterson of Iowa City, Iowa, Suzanne (Severo) Pedroza of Orland Park, Illinois, Cynthia (Mark) Carrington of Channahon, Illinois and Kevin Robert Masterson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Jane Sesker and Cynthia Carlisle both of Tipton; fourteen grandchildren, Katie Adams (Kyle) Buell, Doug Adams (Angie Wilson), Nick (Meredith) Masterson, Emily Masterson, Mary (Joey) Puccinelli, Ben Masterson, Margaret Masterson, Olivia Masterson, Jessica Pedroza, Alena Pedroza, Rachel Papp, Casey John (Megan) Papp, Casey Lynne Carrington and Jason Carrington (Brittany Shafer) and three great grandchildren, James Masterson, Carter Carrington and Declan John Papp. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patricia Trump and Karla Fowler.

Sandra graduated from Tipton High School and St. Ambrose College. She was a registered nurse for many years at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.  Sandra had served as the director of KCAP, the American Red Cross Blood Services and the Visiting Nurses. Back in the 1970’s she served on the Galesburg School District #205 Board and was past president of the GHS Band Parents. She was known as the “Picture Lady”. As founder of the Picture Lady program she highlighted artists and brought artwork into the middle schools. As a lover of the arts, Sandra supported the Galesburg Civic Art Center and visited many art museums with her family. She was a master gardener, loved to read and enjoyed listening to music, especially Johnny Mathis. Sandra was instrumental in creating our local Monarch Butterfly watch program. She was a member of the Galesburg Jr. Women’s Club and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Jacob Rose officiating. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Tipton, Iowa. The family requests no flowers, please. Memorials may be made to the Tipton Public Library or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
