John Cripe

Vermontville John Cripe Mr. John Cripe, age 75, of Vermontville passed away Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI John, born in Albion, on August 29, 1945, was the son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Strine) Cripe. After completing his education, John joined United States Army on September 20, 1963. John served faithfully in the Light Field Artillery Division where he received the National Defense Service Medal. John completed his service to his country and had an honorable discharge on June 22, 1966. Shortly after being discharged from the Army, John met the love of his life Lynne (Harr) Cripe and the couple was married on August 26, 1967 in Chelsea, MI. After working in the construction trades for several years, the couple sought a slower life in the country and began looking for a farm. They settled in the Vermontville area in 1975, where they began working their very own dairy farm. While John loved being on the farm, he began to use his building skills, starting his own contracting company in the late 1980s. John focused solely on construction beginning in the early-1990s. Starting in 1996, John began competing with his friends, family, and neighbors in Horse Pulling events all over the state. He was an active member of the Michigan Horsepulling Boat Association, Michigan Dynamometer Association, and Heritage Draft Horse Association. During the years of horsepulling, he made many friendships along the way. Horsepulling met a lot to him. He had a love for the sport, and it did not matter if he won or lost a pull, he enjoyed it either way. John was always quick to help neighbors or friends, and he was known for his generosity to others. While he was helping a lot people, he made them feel like they were family, whether it was a 2nd parent or just a close friend.
