William Burton Mahoney Obituary

Mahoney, William (Bill) Burton, of Louisville, passed away on November 22, 2020 at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, IL on July 31, 1931 to Sylvia and Edward, Bill relocated to Louisville, KY in the ninth grade, graduating from Manual High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18 and was stationed in California. Upon completing his Naval service, Bill moved back to Kentucky, where he married Blanche Reddick in 1958. Together with their daughter Patricia, they resided in Louisville. After the military, Bill enjoyed an expansive career in the printing business. He began his career at the Masonic Homes before becoming involved in sales at Consolidated Printing where he would evolve into being one of the co-owners before retiring. Together, Bill and Blanche became deeply committed to politics. Bill was a staunch democrat and would work call centers or participate in door-to-door canvassing for the campaigns and candidates he believed in, while Blanche was a key player in Senator Wendall Ford’s success. Bill also became a dedicated caretaker to Blanche, before her passing in 2004. In 2005, the age of 74, Bill eloped with close friend, the late Joanne B Mahoney (then Henry). They enjoyed traveling the world, late night swims in their pool, wine tastings, being part of their Chapel Hill church family, and benevolently supporting the many charitable causes near and dear to their hearts. They had almost ten years of adventures with one another. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, two phenomenal wives, granddaughter Karen Miller, and many dear friends. He leaves behind a lovingly blended family, including his daughter Patricia Wrocklage (Joe), stepdaughter Joanie White (Richard), grandchildren and great grandchildren Amanda Martinho (Cody), Theresa Harris, Michael Lindenmayer, Maggie Lindenmayer, Christina Burchett (Cory), Wendall Blair, Mason Lindenmayer, Dezirai Martinho, and Karina Burchett. A small memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Chapel Hill United Church of Christ, 2307 Embassy Lane. Visitation will be from 12 – 1, with the service beginning at 1. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED. Bill had a love of reading, a fondness for music, an affection for the University of Kentucky athletic program – especially their basketball team where he was a decades long season ticket holder, a penchant for dry red wine, and above all a driving desire to leave the world a better place than he found it. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The American Red Cross. www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html
