Lee R. Gillmore

Lee R. Gillmore, age 91, of Kansas City, KS, and previously of Salina, KS, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020. Graveside Funeral Service will be 1:30p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, KS. Lee was born on October 20, 1929 in Salina, Kansas and was the youngest of three children born to Samuel & Eva (Chapman) Gillmore. Lee grew up on his family’s farm near Kipp, Kansas. He graduated from Kipp High School in the class of 1947. Lee proudly served two years in the U.S. Army and then returned to farm. Lee married Elaine (Hamburg) on January 29, 1961 and together they made their home on the farm where they raised their two daughters. In the early 1990’s Lee & Elaine sold the farm and moved to Salina. Over the years, Lee enjoyed flying and was proud to have received his Pilot’s License. He also enjoyed playing the piano, which he had learned to play by ear. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his two siblings: Lloyd and Helen and his wife Elaine Gillmore. Survivors include: daughters, Mary Genz (Keith) of Basehor, Donna Leeper (Chris) of Olathe; grandchildren Nick Genz, Megan Leeper, and Ryan Leeper (Rachael); step-grandchildren Amber Espy, (Jeremy), and Brad Genz; step-great-grandchildren Bailey Farris (Kaleb) and Adam Espy. Memorials may be given in Lee’s name to: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 302 S. 7th St., Salina, KS. 67401.
