<p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Max LaDon Carpenter (SFC, Alabama Army National Guard, Retired), a resident of Ariton, died peacefully at home on November 24, 2020, with his loving wife and family by his side. He was 68.</strong></span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>His faith was strong, and he served his church in many capacities, none more important to him than the Food Ministry. He was a devoted family man, a loving father and will be remembered as a fun-loving Pawpaw, as well as a kind and generous friend.</strong></span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Mr. Carpenter, son of the late Oras Lee and Estelle Helms Carpenter, was preceded in death by his parents and infant granddaughter. Many memories will be cherished by his wife, Gwendolyn Carpenter; brothers David (Betty) Carpenter, Jeral (Linda) Carpenter, and Eddie Joe Carpenter; children, Kristy Denise Cook and Karla Delaine Carpenter; stepchildren, Tammy (Tony) Walker, Tricia (Randy) Royer, and Allen (Michelle) Long; grandchildren, Kaitlynn Estelle Carpenter, Regan (D.J.) Salter, and Ansley Elisabeth Carpenter; and Alaina (Blake) Deshazo, Shannon (Travis) Patterson, and Aaron Royer; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.</strong></span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Mr. Carpenter spent his early years on the farm in Barbour County, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and shared that love with his grandchildren. He was an especially enthusiastic fan of&nbsp;Alabama Crimson Tide Football and watching a game with him was truly a memorable experience...Roll Tide!</strong></span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>SFC Max Carpenter proudly served in the Alabama ARMY National Guard for 37 years until his retirement and continued his service by volunteering with DAV Chapter #94 in Ozark. He also retired from Twitchell Corporation after thirty-five years of employment.</strong></span></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 27, 2020 in the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jeff Downing and Pastor Mike Medley officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Ariton Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Max LaDon Carpenter (SFC, Alabama Army National Guard, Retired), a resident of Ariton, died peacefully at home on November 24, 2020, with his loving wife and family by his side. He was 68.
