Merle Gilbert Williams, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away on November 22nd, 2020 in her sleep after a enduring Parkinson's Disease for two years.  Merle had most recently been living with her eldest daughter in North Carolina.  Merle is one of three children to the late Albert and Lillian Gilbert of MA.  Preceded in death by her brother Miles Gilbert, and leaving behind her sister, Roberta Berard of Tanzania, CA.  Merle was born in Hull, MA.  After college she began teaching and going to school to complete two Master's degrees focusing on education.  While in grad school she met a handsome African man named George and they married the following Spring.  Merle dedicated over 10 years of her life to teaching children and raising her own daughters while in Africa in the late 70's and early 80's.  Having to flee Africa due to the beginning of the military coup, she returned to the states with her daughters Julia (3 years old), Alicia (6 months old) and her adopted daughter Mary (20 years old).  Merle came back to the States to continue her teaching career until retirement after 42 years of service.
Merle had an unabashed love for food and cooking in addition to be an adventurous world traveler.  Many of you know the amount of energy that Merle embodied, enabling her to be a full-time Realtor and a Private Investigator for many years.
Merle is survived by her eldest daughter, Mary Bracewell, Julia Kluetz (Brandon), Granddaughter  (Delilah), Alicia Williams-Serwer (Adam), Granddaughter (Hannah), and her daughter of love Vonnie Symathong, Granddaughter (Tyra).

A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Triad Cremation and Funeral Service is assisting the family.
